Chinese Outbound Businesses: Opportunities and Challenges

Join us this Thursday, April 21, at CSIS for a talk (in Chinese, of course) by Dr. Wang Huiyao, President of the Center for China and Globalization. Dr. Wang’s talk is titled “Chinese Outbound Businesses: Opportunities and Challenges.” Dr. Wang has just authored a new book, China Goes Global: How China’s Overseas Investment is Transforming Its Business Enterprises. The book contains detailed case studies, so this is a chance to discuss some of the deeper firm-level issues rather than simply the quantity of investment, which is the usual focus of attention.

About Wang Huiyao:

Dr.Huiyao WangDr. Huiyao (Henry) WANG is the Founder and President of Center for China and Globalization (CCG), the top independent think tank on talent and enterprises development in China. He is also the President of China Global Talent Society under Ministry of Human Resource and Social Security, Dean, Institute of Development Studies, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and Vice Chairman of China Association for International Economic Cooperation under the Ministry of Commerce as well as Vice Chairman of China Western Returned Scholars Association.

Dr. Wang was formerly a Senior Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School and visiting fellow at Brookings Institution in the USA. He has studied at University of Windsor, University of Western Ontario and University of Manchester, obtained his MBA and his PhD degrees in management. Dr. Wang has taught as Adjunct Professor at Guanghua Management School of Peking University and Richard Ivey School of Business at University of Western Ontario. He has published more than 50 books and 100 articles and papers on Chinese and global talents, returnees, entrepreneurship, diaspora and China firms going global.

He is the author of China Goes Global: How China’s Overseas Investment is Transforming Its Business Enterprises,Palgrave Macmillan, London, England; Report on Globalization of Chinese Enterprises 2015, Social Sciences Academic Press(China) , Beijing and The Chinese Overseas Investment Tide,China Machine Press, Beijing.
